I don’t have many pictures for this easy homemade Thai dipping sauce because I didn’t think it would be very good but it was outstanding!
I threw it together for a catering when I realized I didn’t have any bottled dip but after I made it and it was so much better and easy. No more bottled stuff.
I was in a pinch!!!
So I had to deliver a catering to a big law firm and Thai vegan spring rolls were on the menu. Getting together all the sauces and dipping sauces is one of the last things I do. Bad time management.
Everything was great until my checklist said Thai Dipping sauce! NOOOO!! The bottle I have (which is very good) was almost empty. Panic!! Google!! Oh I can make that!! So with a few minor changes the catering was saved. Oh and BTW it was much better than the bottled!
Here is what happened!
I Googled easy Thai dipping sauce and a recipe came up on Allrecipes. I usually don’t like recipes on that site but I will give credit for this one and credit to Tonia Hobson.
Let’s Make This Simple Recipe
This is simple and great. Here is what you need.
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1 cup vinegar. Preferably rice vinegar but white vinegar works fine
- Sugar 1 cup
- 1 tbsp minced ginger
- 1 tbsp minced Thai red chili. You can use other chilies but the red chili looks the best. You can also substitute dried red chili flakes.
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tsp ketchup (optional) but weirdly it works
- 1/4 cup water mixed with 2 tsp cornstarch (not corn flour)
Put everything except the cornstarch and water in a pot and boil for 5 minutes. Add the cornstarch and water mixture and boil 30 seconds. Let cool and you are ready.
