Crispy Flaky and Delicious

Why?

This inexpensive best fish fry is gluten free and can be easily thrown together in less than a half hour. In no time you will be serving this restaurant quality meal which includes fish, fries, slaw, and tartar sauce This will please everyone including the kids.

Read below 👇for tips to save time and reduce steps!

Can I really make this in 30 minutes?

Yes! If you are organized and have some knife skills, otherwise it may take an extra 10 minutes. It is worth it!

Is This Really Gluten Free?

Yep! This three step dredging uses no wheat flour, but you can use wheat flour. Other great choices are rice flour, or corn starch in the first step but I like to use masa harina (fine ground corn flour) to add another layer of corn flavor before the final dredge in crushed tortilla chips.

Can a gluten free fish fry be good?

I served this in my first restaurant and it received a thumbs up👍👍👍👍 from “The Washington Post“.

What Kind of Fish?

You can use any kind of flaky whitefish. I used catfish in this recipe but I used a more expensive fish (rockfish) in my restaurant. Tilapia is a great economical choice, cod would be great too.

Tip 📢

Use fresh fish to avoid a mushy texture. I like the sweet taste of farm raised catfish above the muddy taste in most wild catfish.

Steps and tips!

  • cut potatoes and put them in water to remove some starch, cut as much as you need and the shape you like. The recipe is for 3 people so scale it how you like.
  • Make a quick slaw and tartar sauce. Take the mayo is out add some pickle relish, lemon juice, chilies… to the mayo for a quick tartar sauce or buy it. I added pickle relish and chipotle.
  • Now a quick slaw with cabbage and carrot or buy a mix from the store. Easy dressing- mayo, vinegar, sugar, Additions-celery seed, mustard, onion…
  • start your oil, and add your dried potatoes to the oil. 📢We are making twice fried fries. If you use store bought fries wait for second fry.
  • prepare the recipe below. When the oil begins to boil take the potatoes out and drain on paper towel. This is an easy first fry and it won’t be greasy. Let the oil heat up to 350 degrees.
  • fry the fish until nice and gold then fry the potatoes until golden
